Getting started on your personal fitness journey
Starting a fitness program may be one of the best things you can do for your health. With your doctor's OK to exercise, physical activity can reduce your risk of chronic disease, improve your balance and coordination, help you lose weight - even improve your sleep habits, and self-esteem!

Patience is essential. Don't try to do too much too soon and don't quit before you have a chance to experience the rewards of improved fitness. You can't regain in a few days or weeks what you have lost in years of sedentary living, but you can get it back if you persevere. And the prize is worth the price.

At Maximum Fitness our goal is to educate our members on the benefits of having a well thought out and planned fitness program. Our personal trainers are ready and willing to answer all of your questions and help you reach your personal fitness goals.

There are three main ingredients to any balanced training routine...weight training, aerobic exercise and a healthy diet. The following information lists the benefits of each phase of your exercise plan.
WEIGHT/STRENGTH TRAINING
  1. Weight training tones your muscles which looks great and raises your basal metabolism...which causes you to burn more calories 24 hours a day. You'll even burn more calories while you're sleeping!
  2. Weight training energizes you! Believe it..because its true!
  3. Strength training will NOT develop big muscles on most women...just toned muscles!
  4. Strengthens bones reducing your risk of developing osteoporosis.
  5. Training with weights improves your posture, balance and coordination.
AEROBIC EXERCISE
  1. Boost your mood. Aerobic exercise can ease the gloominess of depression and reduce the tension associated with anxiety, as well as promote relaxation.
  2. Increase your stamina. Aerobic exercise may make you tired in the short term. But over the long term, you'll enjoy increased stamina and reduced fatigue.
  3. Help you manage chronic conditions. Aerobic exercise helps lower high blood pressure, control blood sugar, and relieve chronic muscle pain. If you've had a heart attack, aerobic exercise can help prevent subsequent attacks.
  4. Strengthen your heart. A stronger heart doesn't need to beat as fast. A stronger heart also pumps blood more efficiently, which improves blood flow to all parts of your body.
  5. Ward off viral illnesses. Aerobic exercise activates your immune system. This leaves you less susceptible to minor viral illnesses, such as colds and flu.
HEALTHY DIET
  1. reduce risk for stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
  2. reduce risk for type 2 diabetes.
  3. protect against certain cancers, such as mouth, stomach, and colon-rectum cancer.
  4. reduce the risk of coronary artery disease.
  5. help decrease bone loss and reduce the risk of developing kidney stones.
  6. Fruits are a great source for nutrients such as potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin C, and folic acid.
  7. Folic acid (folate) helps the body form red blood cells. Women of childbearing age who may become pregnant and those in the first trimester of pregnancy should consume adequate folic acid, including folic acid from fortified foods or supplements.
  8. Vitamin A keeps eyes and skin healthy and helps to protect against infections.
  9. Vegetables are a great source for potassium, dietary fiber, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin C.
